The Jigsaw Reading Technique

Just finished reading a great article, from the Tunisian English Teaching Forum, on Jigsaw Reading, by Tarak Brahmi. A number of class worksheets are also included.

Tarak explains
Jigsaw reading is a cooperative learning technique that aims at enhancing the learners’ reading comprehension skills by helping them to meaningfully interact with the reading material and to take responsibility in sharing what they have learnt with other learners.

I like the social aspect of this technique and although it is primarily aimed at enhancing reading, it could also be very useful in other subjects where memorising facts is required.

Tarak's article is just one of several excellent pieces included in the 5th edition of theTunisian English Teaching Forum magazine.

In light of the revolution that occurred in Tunisia in December 2010, this particular issue is "dedicated to the whole country and its martyrs for making a once-far-fetched dream become true".

The emphasis on raising awareness about Tunisia's "amazing beauty and it's boundless potential" is a wonderful addition in this poignant issue.

Sharing: An Obligation...

Opening the K12 Online Conference for 2010, Dean Shareski argues that sharing within education, in the 21st century, is a "moral imperative".

It is hard not to agree, as you listen to Dean drawing on examples from his own experience. As he says "we are now in the very early stages of a sharing revolution" facilitated not least by the explosion of Web2.0 technology. Great keynote Dean!

Teachers and students from around the world are becoming empowered to share their learning experiences and best work practices. What a wonderful scenario.

Educators such as Mohamed Salah Abidi and Tarak Brahmi, who produce the Tunisian English Teaching Forum Magazine, are sharing freely and willingly with a global audience. You only need to take a look at their publication to see what is possible. Indeed, I was honoured to be given the opportunity to contribute to the latest issue. Many thanks Tarak. I am already looking forward to the next one!

This is just one of the many examples of what is already happening.

Vive la révolution!!!

Tunisian English Teaching Forum Vol 3

The 3rd issue of the Tunisian English Teaching Forum Magazine is now out.

The magazine continues to provide great practical articles and links to a wide variety of resources. Although, written primarily for EFL teachers it, none the less, provides sound advice and interesting reading for all areas of teaching.

The focus this time round is on 'Speaking English'. The magazine is beautifully presented and well worth reading!

New e-Magazine for EFL Teachers

Tunisian English Teaching Forum

The Tunisian English Teaching Forum have just published the first issue of their new e-magazine, which is "for and by teachers in Tunisia and abroad".

Mohamed Salah Abidi and his team have produced an excellent product containing lots of useful information and links.

It is a very enjoyable, informative read and makes for a great practical resource, which can be referenced again and again. You can read it online or download it for offline viewing.

Feedback and contributions for the next issue are welcomed and can be emailed to Mohamed Salah Abidi at med.sahaATgmail.com

The Tunisian English Teaching Forum e-magazine will be publishing quarterly and I am already looking forward to the next issue!
