Flash Game Based on the World Cup

The World Cup Game can be used to "test anything at all, from Maths and Science to French and Latin". The idea of the game is that you try to win the World Cup, as any of the 32 nations, by answering a set of questions.

You can use the existing sets of questions or create your own new set. Currently, there are over 60 question sets to choose from.

Recommended sets include: Spanish Verbs,  Multiplication Tables,  Tricky Spellings,  GCSE Maths, French Vocabulary (basic or advanced) and US State Capitals.

To use any of the other question sets just add the filename to the end of the following URL: "http://www.caniplaythisathome.com/play.htm?questions="

This is a wonderful example of increasing motivation by linking a current topical event to what might otherwise be normal mundane testing! The creator, Greg Pallis, had a great response from his students reporting "my students really enjoyed it when I used it with them, and made great use of it at home" and he is thrilled to be able to share the game with everyone.

You can also sign up for Greg's newsletter if you want to hear about any new games being released.

EduGames Galore!

ZaidLearn Games Post

Zaid has recently composed another great list of resources with his 75 free EduGames.

Zaid's post is about "exploring and discovering free educational games that could be useful to embed within or across courses (and programs) to spark more engagement, challenge, mystery, exploration, collaboration, problem-solving, decision making, imagination, fun and thinking into the learning process".

If you haven't done so then I would advise you to check it out now!!!

I haven't used all of them yet but I really like the ClassTools.net site. This one alone will keep you busy for ages. Also, the jQuizShow is a must if you like 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire'.

Zaid also promises to keep adding new Edugames to his Games Galore del.icio.us site. Definitely one to bookmark :-)

ICT Flash Games Database

ReviseICT Logo

ReviseICT.co.uk is a great place to visit for ICT flash based games. Although aimed at second level students, they are also useful for beginners learning ICT.

ReviseICT.co.uk includes such games as 'penalty shootout', 'walk the plank', 'beat the bomb', 'hoop shoot' and 'fling the teacher'!

Penalty ShootoutIn the 'penalty shootout', when you answer the question correctly, you get a chance to beat the goalkeeper. This provides great motivation to get the question right.

Also, you don't automatically beat the keeper - so this part is a bit of a challenge in itself :-)

Great for competitive types and sports enthusiasts. Some of the games also allow for two player participation.

Each of the revision topics in ReviseICT.co.uk has a collection of "notes, podcasts, mind-maps, games, quizzes and suggested links". As well as this, separate ICT related tutorials are also provided.

All of the flash games are produced using ContentGenerator, which even provides some of the games for free so that you can create your very own!

A great find and just in time for exam revision coming up!! Thanks David.
