Supporting Earth Hour 2010

Earth Hour

Earth Hour began in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change.

The following year, Earth Hour became a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating.

In March 2009, hundreds of millions of people took part in the third Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative.

Why not participate in Earth Hour 2010 which takes place on Saturday 27 March at 8.30pm (local time) and is a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community throughout the world.

Join millions of other people across the world from all walks of life by turning off your lights and unite together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet.

Help make 2010 the biggest Earth Hour yet!!!

Update: 30/3/2010 - Have a look at these wonderful photos of the event.

Top 50 Education Technology Blogs

The Learning Master

The Learning Master Blog have just compiled a very useful list of their Top 50 Education Technology Blogs.

The list is divided into three categories:
* movers
* shakers
* on the ground

The 'movers' focuses on "teachers who facilitate learning among other teachers and in the classroom". The 'shakers' features those who "teach new philosophies and innovations". While, 'on the ground' highlights educators offering "news, tools and methods of using those tools in the classroom".

I was delighted and honored to find that Using ICT in Further Education has in fact been included in the 'on the ground' section. Many thanks Emily.

Indeed, The Learning Master Blog have compiled several other useful lists including:

Programming and Game Development Course

Planet Kodu

I have just signed up for the Kodu Game Lab Course which started this Monday and will run for the next five weeks. The course will go through many aspects of game design using Kodu Game Lab, a programming platform developed by Microsoft.

Interestingly, the course has been designed as a 'connectivist' one influenced by the work of Stephen Downes and George Siemens and the desire “that the knowledge in this course emerges as a result of the connections among the [participants] … and is not some ‘content’ shoveled from experts to recipients”.

Looking forward to seeing how it works out. The 'connectivist' model may well prove to be a viable model for this 'Internet era' that we live in!

Oh and it is still not too late to sign up for the Kodu Game Lab Course :-)
