The European Library provides a great opportunity to view artifacts that you are unlikely to come across unless you travel to each participating national library. This is particularly true of the 'digital library treasures' section containing highlights from many of the national libraries in Europe.
The example above, from the Book of Hours of Simon de Varie, being housed in The National Library of the Netherlands.
As well as containing library catalogues for each participant national library, the European Library includes some very interesting and useful online media including text documents and photographs.
